Super Bowl Snacking

Why is it that Americans use the Super Bowl as an excuse to eat as much crap as possible? My family’s never been huge into football so growing up the Super Bowl was just about watching commercials, seeing the half-time show and then going to bed.

It wasn’t until I got to college that I realized people get NUTS about the game, and even more NUTS about the food they serve….yikes!

Since the BF’s family is in town I knew I would need to have some snack options on hand so I wouldn’t be overly tempted for regular Super Bowl snacks. And I must say— I’m really looking forward to munching tonight!!

1. Brad’s raw Kale Chips (Vampire Killer flavor)- a little expensive ($7.99 at Whole Foods! but worth the splurge occasionally for the cheesy/garlickly/crunchy goodness)

2. Roasted Chickpeas— same goodness that I’ve been having for awhile, but another substitute for a crunchy snack!

3. Trader Joe’s Spicy Black Bean dip- Never tried it before, but I’m serving it with celery and green pepper strips!

4. Nuts! Emerald Nuts was having a HUGE sale on their nuts this week so the BF went a little crazy and got 5 cans! So far my favorites are these Salt and Pepper Cashews. I swear they taste like potato chips!

YUM! I can’t wait to continue snacking on these goodies during the game. How are you staying healthy during the game?
